For about as extended as there’s been cinema, there’s been queer cinema. I don’t just represent queer subtext, of which there has always been plenty; I mean overtly queer characters as early as Zapatas Bande in , Ich möchte kein Mann sein in , and Anders als die Andern in , all of which were German films made during the country’s Weimar period. There are early examples of films made in Hollywood, too, before the Hays Code was adopted in , that featured LGBTQ+ characters or played with gender identity, albeit in some harmful ways.
We’ve come a long way since then; the past 15 years in particular have been a boon for queer cinema, so much so that there are as many bad movies as good ones. Which means there is space for experimentation and, often, failure for gay and trans cinema where there wasn’t before. And personally, if I’m going to watch a bad movie, I’d prefer it to be at least a little bit gay. But that’s not why we’ve gathered here. No, we are he
Well my friends, it is June, which means its time for networks to prove how much they care about us through creating new LGBTQ+ programming, and I dont denote just creating a Voices of Pride section on their primary interface that houses all the Gay movies in their catalog as well as television they made and cancelled in the past.

Below are 40 that I genuinely think you'll love, and if you wish even more suggestions, you can check out my running list on Letterboxd with nearly films. Enjoy!
1.Young Hearts () is a modern coming-of-age story about two year-old boys who fall in love for the first second. This Belgian movie is awkward and sweet and painfully authentic. I can't rave enough about it, and the only downside is that it wasn't released 20 years ago when I was their age and needed it most.
2.National Anthem () is one of my favorite movies from the last few years, so I'm sort of hoping (well, demanding) that you see it. It's a tender, refreshing look at queerness and chosen family and what it means to actually belong. Too many people are sleeping on Charlie Plummer,
