Did Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman Affirm the LGBTQ+ Community?
Jon Foreman, frontman of the Grammy Award winning Christian rock band Switchfoot, recently turned heads when he appeared to affirm people living an LGBTQ+ lifestyle in a video posted to the band’s TikTok page.
In the video, which has received over 22, views, Foreman replies to openly lgbtq+ artist Grace Baldridge who goes by Semler on stage. Earlier this year, Semler independently released an album titled “Preacher’s Kid,” which reached the number one spot on the iTunes Christian album chart, overtaking Lauren Daigle’s “Look Up Child.”
Semler’s album comes with an “explicit warning” tag and condemns many aspects of her Christian upbringing. In the tune “Bethlehem,” Baldridge questions the historicity of Jesus’ birth, talks about marrying another woman, says “f@#k a saviour,” and accuses missions trips of being scams.

Last week, Switchfoot&#;s Jon Foreman posted a TikTok expressing support for the LGBTQ community. The video came in response to a message from Grace Semler Baldridge, a queer Christian artist who&#;s been calling on CCM and CCM-adjacent acts to clarify their positions on LGBTQ inclusion.
“Yes, I support your rights and freedoms, I desire you to feel loved and supported,” Foreman says in the video. “Love and embrace have always been central to our story and our tune. We need our differences.”
Baldridge, better known as Semler to her rapidly expanding fanbase, was thrilled. “I am interpreting what you said as being affirming,&#; she said. &#;If I am incorrect in that, then I really wish you would clarify. Because I think for many queer people of faith, the bait-and-switch of hearing such encouraging words prefer yours and then ruling out that means something else can be heartbreaking. But I don’t reflect that’s you.”

Switchfoot Has Never Let You Down
In , Jon Foreman sat down with his brother Tim, their friend Chad Butler and their families to figure out what to do about Switchfoot.
“We weren’t making money,” Butler says now. “My wife had a job. She was paying the rent. We had a new neonate. We were really struggling.”
Butler wasn’t alone. The whole band was in a tight spot. Jon had moved advocate in with his parents. “Life was moving forward,” Tim says. “What feels like a sustainable thing when you’re in high university looks different in your mids.”
It wasn’t supposed to be like this. The three albums the band released through Christian labels had been warmly received by critics, but good reviews don’t pay for health insurance and a loyal following of youth group kids isn’t exactly a sturdy foundation for a real career.
